Meet our pigs

KuneKune × Duroc

This isn't the pale pork from the grocery store. Our pigs are a cross of two heritage breeds known for deep red, well-marbled, flavorful meat. KuneKune, a slow-growing breed from New Zealand, is best known for its rich red color and flavor. Duroc, a classic American breed, is prized for its marbling and juiciness. Together, we think they make the perfect cross.

What to order

Pig shares

Each share is one price that covers your meat and the butcher fees. Cutting, wrapping, curing and sausage by Ten Mile Meats are included in our quotes. Choosing brats instead of sausage carries a small extra fee. Reserve with a deposit now and pay the rest at pickup.

A whole pig gives about 112 lb of meat, so each share is its piece of that: a sixteenth is about 7 lb, and the amount doubles with each size up.

Why buy local

Pork the way it should taste

A few generations ago, hogs grew slower, lived in small herds, and carried more fat. Over the last half-century, commercial pork was bred to be lean and fast-growing, “the other white meat.” It got leaner, but many cooks feel it also lost flavor and juiciness.

We raise our pigs the old-fashioned way: a small herd, good feed, and the time they need to grow.

We believe strongly in knowing where your food comes from. Our pigs are raised right here on our farm in Ferndale, and you pick up your share from the same family that raised them. Ask us anything about how they're raised; we're always happy to talk about it.
